Speech & Language needs within SEND
This session provides an overview of speech, language and communication needs within SEND in the early years. It explores common signs of difficulty, the impact on children’s learning, behaviour and relationships, and the important role early years practitioners play in identification, support and referral.
Description
Speech, language and communication are the foundation for children's learning, social relationships and emotional wellbeing. As early years practitioners, we play a vital role in recognising when a child may need additional support and in creating environments that promote successful communication for all children.
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Understand how speech and language develop.
- Recognise signs of delayed communication.
- Use practical strategies to support language development.
- Know when concerns should be shared.
