Building Children's Resilience
This course reinforces the important role practitioners play in creating safe, nurturing environments where children feel secure enough to explore, take risks, and learn from mistakes.
Description
Resilience is the ability to cope with challenges, adapt to change, and recover from setbacks. In the early years, resilience is not something children are born with—it develops through positive relationships, supportive environments, and opportunities to learn from everyday experiences.
This 30-minute course explores how early years practitioners can nurture resilience in young children by promoting emotional wellbeing, encouraging independence, supporting problem-solving, and helping children develop confidence in their own abilities. Participants will learn practical strategies that can be embedded into everyday practice to help children build the skills they need to thrive both now and in the future.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
- Understand what resilience is and why it is important in the early years.
- Recognise the factors that help build children's resilience.
- Implement practical strategies to develop confidence, independence, and problem-solving skills.
- Support children's emotional wellbeing through positive relationships and everyday interactions.
- Work in partnership with families to promote resilience.
- Reflect on their own practice and identify opportunities to strengthen children's resilience.
